Support Groups

Peer support, foster carer associations and/or self help groups for foster carers are encouraged and supported’ (National Minimum Standards 2011:21.4)

Haringey Fostering Service provides an evening and morning Support Group Forum for Carers.

The support group is facilitated by a fostering worker.

The aim of the group is to:

  • Foster carers can meet together to discuss issues that relate to the fostering task and in turn obtain mutual support from their peers.
  • The Fostering Service feeds back developments that are taking place within Haringey Fostering and the Organisation as a whole and to hear from carers any issues that may be impacting on their roles and tasks.
  • There are also regular visitors from other Services presenting any changes that may be taking place within their area of work, which is relevant to fostering.
  • Receive feedback from other foster carers on issues related to the fostering role.
  • An opportunity for the group to have space and time to reflect on their role.

The Evening Group meets on the last Wednesday of the month between the hours of 7 – 9.00pm.

The morning support group meets on the last Wednesday of the month from 10am – 12noon. This is followed by a Toy Library and an opportunity to meet with members of the Haringey Foster Carer’s Association from 12 – 1pm.

Haringey Fostering Services ‘Male Foster Carers’ Support, Learning & Development Group meets once a month in the Thursday evening at 6:30-9:00pm.

Please contact your Supervising Social Worker for further information.
