The City of York Foster Carer’s Handbook has been produced as resource for both new and established carers. It aims to provide advice and support, and covers the day-to-day issues you may face in your role as a foster carer.

The handbook contains links to the Minimum Standards for Fostering and references to the relevant Training, Support and Development Standards and other guidance documents. The handbook can be used to support your learning and development, particularly during your induction and in relation to meeting the Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Carers.
Foster carers play an important role in the lives of Children in Care, and their families, so it is important that you have the necessary tools to support you with this task. The handbook is one such tool, alongside support from your Supervising Social Worker, other professionals and other foster carers.
